An Original Photo

Watermelon with patterns on skin

Once bought a watermelon with cropfield-like patterns on it. My dad came up with the explanation that when the watermelon was growing, it was pricked in the centres of the circles and so the skin grew out in a wave. Then when it was sanded smooth, parts of the wave were skimmed off.
